In reply to Radinika.

Good question. But it's going to take a bit of back story- so bear with me. When Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden life for them changed drastically. They had been with God, daily. They walked and talked with Him. And now they were forever apart from Him. He sent messengers, but they never saw God face to face again in mortality. (At least I'm 99% sure they didn't. If you find a scripture referencing otherwise let me know.) Not only that but everything around them reminded them of their fall- they had to labor for their food, things like weeds were introduced to the Earth, etc. They loved God and missed Him and were desperate to be forgiven. So they clung to the promise of a Savior. Prophets from Adam on down have talked about "that Christ who should come." In Moses 6:57 it reads "Wherefore teach it unto your children, that all men, everywhere, must repent, or they can in no wise inherit the kingdom of God, for no unclean thing can dwell there, or dwell in his presence; for, in the language of Adam, Man of Holiness is his name, and the name of his Only Begotten is the Son of Man, even Jesus Christ, a righteous Judge, who shall come in the meridian of time." Adam knew that Christ's name would be Jesus.

To clarify why we call Him Jesus Christ I need to explain something. Christ is a title like Messiah. When His first name was revealed, it was wonderful news and people talked about it. Jesus was his name, Christ was his title. And they talked about it from the very beginning. It was a beacon of hope in a difficult and sometimes depressing world. The Atonement and resurrection that the Savior would bring about assured that we would all get to be with God again. That all the goodbyes of life were only temporary, and that we weren't forever condemned to live with the heartache of our sins. For a doctrine so pivotal to eternity, I promise you they were precise. His name was Jesus, his title was Christ- He saved us from living forever apart from our families and our Heavenly Father. I would have published that from the roof tops from the moment I learned it, 100 or 1000 years before it happened. And yes, these were the actual words of King Benjamin. But he wasn't the only prophet to talk about Jesus Christ and His coming, and its significance. Every prophet who has ever lived has testified of Christ. He came in the Meridian of Time- or in other words, the center of time. The center of all time before and after- which is a mind boggling thing. Every prophet before pointed to that moment for hope. Every prophet afterward has pointed to that moment for reassurance. I may sound like I'm giving you new information. But if you'll pray about it God will give you your own witness. I've gotten mine, and it's beautiful. I'm glad you asked your question. Let me know if you have more questions. I'm happy to help.

About the part in Mosiah 4... There choice of words that always bug and stuck me when reading the Book of Mormon...
He offers some insights into how the atonement of Jesus Christ impacts not just our eternal lives, but our behavior in this mortal life.

"for we believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who created heaven and earth
Mosiah 4:2

because of the exceeding faith which they had in Jesus Christ who should come
Mosiah 4:3

Why is it JESUS Christ when this is before the man Jesus of Nazareth was not even born in the flesh and as the story unfolds in the new Testament, we can understand that he is the Messiah, the Son, the Savior, the anointed one, Christ the Lord... So during Jesus ministry and after we csn affirm that Jesus (the man who walk the roads of Palestine) is indeed the Christ, our savior and deliverer...

I understand the principle that Christ, the Savior, the Lord, God, impacts our lives here now and eternally and that Christ is Jesus of Nazareth, but why put the name Jesus when the man to bear than name will only exist some 100 years later?

Is this a choice word of translation from Joseph Smith? Or words chosen by Mormon when compiling the most important accounts for our time, or is it actual words spoken by King Benjamin... where the common sense fails me. They couldn't know that precise... Even Isaiah talks clearly but still without precise details...
