Just knowing what you want to learn puts you ahead of me when I was in college. I suggest you not listen to anyone who tries to discourage you, and move forward with confidence. Because knowledge is one of the few things we get to keep with us forever. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you for this article. I have been struggling lately with feeling a bit lost. I have a great interest in life long learning. I am a Latter Day Saint. I became a member 15 years ago. I grew up in an abusive household and have been recovering/healing. I graduated in 2011 with an education degree. I cannot teach at this time. I thrive when learning. I am hoping to thrive more this year. My problem is that there is too much I want to learn. How do I know where to start? How do I stay focused? How do I deal with the stigma of wanting to study 'childish subjects'? I missed a lot growing up and noticed many holes in my education. I want to fill in those holes.

This was wonderful, thank you! I'll be delving into Art History this year on my own (and whatever subjects that pulls me into as well) through my local library as I train at a trade school. Your tips are greatly appreciated!
