Bill, I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with gossip in your ward — a place that should be safe from backbiting. Yes, we all would do well to heed the Lord’s commandment to refrain from judging others unjustly! We should strive to be kind and loving to all, in front of them as well as out of earshot.

It can severely restrict a person’s ability to do good when his reputation is attacked so that many will not listen to him. We need many to repeat the scriptural warnings about judging others and to say clearly: Gossip is a sin.

Who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? …… He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.
