It would be rather nice if people actually paid attention to the idea of independence and individuality in the church today.

One of the biggest flaws that I see happen is that people, quick to fulfill the...expectation of marriage, do just that and don't spend time cultivating an understanding and expansion of themselves. Not even five years later, many of these people are already wondering who they are and what they are doing with their lives, as their sense of self is dependent on the people around them and the relationships they have. At the very least, this tends to create dissonance and distance between the two as they struggle between time to the duet they've been working on and the solo they should have understood before hand. At the best of times, it's additional hardship during times that are refining fires to begin with. At worst, it's destructive because people turn to make new relationships that fulfill them and create a high of definition.

So it's refreshing to see, particularly from a well established veteran, to see the idea of self-cultivation talked about with sincerity. Thank you for this!
