Oh my dear friend, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. I want you to know that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. I pray for his health, but our ultimate goal is to go home to live with God again. I know God hears and answers prayers. I know you are praying for your Dad, and that is the best thing we can do for him. Covenants help prepare us for the life after this one. But there isn't a covenant that keeps us from death. IF there were it would be the equivalent of trapping our souls and stopping our progress. Sadly these bodies we live in aren't meant to live forever. But this is the only time in all eternity that we will know what sickness is, or pain. And when we are resurrected with perfect bodies, we will know that this life was far from perfect, and we will live together forever in perfect joy. I pray for your Dad's recovery. God does grant miracles and prolong our lives when we ask in faith. I pray he pulls through.

Hi Pius —

Our covenants (or the promises we make with God) should be based off of a love for Him and a desire to do His will. To learn more about them and how to make them, read this article.

Best,
Amy

Hi! The topic of covenants can feel a little tricky, so I can sympathize with your question! Missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints actually deal specifically with this question and with assisting people in making covenants. You can chat online with them here (it also gives a phone number you can call to speak with a missionary) or request a visit from a missionary here. I hope this helps!

Hello. I have been wanting God to bless me in my career/job search. When I spoke to my pastor about this desire, I was advised to enter a covenant with Him. From my understanding, a covenant is making an agreement or "deal" with God in hopes of receiving a blessing for obeying/doing my part. But my problem is, I don't know exactly what covenant to make. I have looked online for examples of covenants and most of these websites talk about covenants that were made in the Bible. Biblical covenants, like in the stories of Noah and Abraham, were about God telling them what to do, not the other way around. I am basically tasked with the responsibility of making a deal with God, but I don't know what my part of the deal will be. As in, I know what I want from God, but I'm not sure what to do for Him in return. I am so confused/haven't been able to reach my pastor for clarity. Would appreciate if someone could give me some realistic examples of human beings creating a covenant with God, maybe I'd understand the process better. Thanks!!

Hi! Covenants are often public acts (i.e. being baptized, taking the sacrament, etc.) that signify personal commitment. To learn more about covenants (and the covenants we can individually make with God), visit LDS.org's page on covenants. Hope this helps!
