Sometimes I like to watch a video clip or read a blog to provide increased focus on what is true and right and important. There are many inspiring stories and good examples.
I had an interesting experience this week. My wife and I took the chance to go visit my best friend from remedial school and his family. It’s been nearly 35 years. I met his wife and some of his children, saw his home and business, and caught up briefly. We were together for hours but after 35 years, spending days together would still feel brief. I had such a great time. Fond memories of my youth returned, and I remembered again why I liked him so much back in high school and feel so lucky to be his friend today. He is kind and real and genuinely good. What’s not to like? And his wife and children are just as delightful. I felt accepted and welcomed and special. The funny thing is I didn’t do anything to receive this kind of welcome. Acceptance and kindness are products of good people who follow the Savior.
I don’t know if you can be proud of your friends or even relieved to know they remain men of God. But I am. As Alma was traveling to the land of Manti to his astonishment, he met with the sons of Mosiah journeying towards the land of Zarahemla. These were his sentiments recorded at that time:
2. Now these sons of Mosiah were with Alma at the time the angel first appeared unto him; therefore Alma did rejoice exceedingly to see his brethren; and what added more to his joy, they were still his brethren in the Lord; yea, and they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God.
3. But this is not all; they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God. (Book of Mormon, Alma, Chapter 17:2-3)
I think I know just how he felt.
So watch these video clips that capture the sentiments of your heart and helps you feel and be the person that you are meant to become.
It’s a step in the right direction.
